My Ideal Bookshelf is all about the books that we choose to keep, as they can say a lot about who we are and how we see ourselves. In My Ideal Bookshelf, dozens of leading cultural figures share the books that matter to them most; books that define their dreams and ambitions and in many cases helped them find their way in the world.

How would I use this book (or this idea) in my classroom?
- An intro at the start of the year to get an idea of what my class had read.
- As a character study for a main character in a text we studied in class (what would the character’s bookshelf look like)
- As a piece of critical analysis along the lines of “if you could only take 8 books to a desert island…”
- As a group activity where students had to campaign for which books should be on the shelf.
- Best books we’ve read all year; from childhood; written by New Zealand Authors etc
I love this – I think it makes a great statement about literature. I dare you to create a similar stop start animation as the assessment!
